Wandering through Plaza Mayor and the colorful streets of Barranco, he sampled fresh ceviche by the coast and watched paragliders float above Miraflores. Lima wasn’t just a starting point — it was a vibrant introduction to Peru’s soul.
🏔️ Cusco – Gateway to the Andes
From sea level to soaring altitude, Matthew continued on to Cusco. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco blends ancient stone walls with lively markets and bustling plazas. Between exploring cobblestone streets and acclimating to the mountain air, Matthew felt the deep history woven into every corner of the city.
🥾 The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – A Journey Through Time
The highlight of the trip? Trekking the legendary Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. For two days, Matthew hiked through misty mountain passes, ancient ruins, and cloud forests. Reaching the Sun Gate at dawn and seeing Machu Picchu emerge from the morning fog was a moment he’ll never forget — a reward earned step by step.
🌵 Huacachina – Oasis in the Desert
Trading mountains for sand dunes, Matthew ventured to Huacachina. This tiny desert oasis felt almost surreal — palm trees circling a lagoon surrounded by towering dunes. He raced across the sand in a dune buggy and tried sandboarding as the sun dipped below the desert horizon.

Matthew’s journey ended deep in the jungle in Iquitos, gateway to the mighty Amazon rainforest. Accessible only by boat or plane, Iquitos felt worlds away from the Andes. Guided by local experts, he explored winding tributaries, spotted monkeys swinging through the canopy, and fell asleep to the soundtrack of the rainforest.
